CYO Adult Leader/Coach's Certification
Each coach or other adult having substantial contact with CYO youth MUST:
(A) register initially as an Adult Leader in the CYO’s online database (click on this online registration link for details on how to register as an Adult Leader); AND annually thereafter, re-enter the on-line system at www.washcyosignup.com using his/her username and password to review and accept the Adult Leader/Coaches Code of Ethics (as well as correct any information, such as e-mail address) by accessing the "Edit My Information" link, opening the Code window, accepting the Code, closing the Code window, and updating the on-line registration form (i.e., click on the update button at the bottom of the form);
AND
(B) become certified by completing the following four steps:
1. Register with Virtus Online at www.virtusonline.org/virtus/reg_0.cfm?theme=0. When you register, you will need to create a UserID and Password and enroll for a mandatory Child Protection Workshop. Coaches and other Adult Leaders must attend a workshop within 60 days of assuming their duties.
To register for a Child Protection Workshop, go to www.adw.org/news/default.asp?eventtype=14.
(IMPORTANT NOTE: The name under which you register for Virtus must match the name you provide on the Volunteer Application Form under Step 2 and on the Criminal Background Investigation Authorization (CBIA) Form you are given under Step 4.)
2. Complete the two-page Volunteer Application Form, which is available for download/printing at www.adw.org/youth/pdf/cpp_volapp2006.pdf, and mail/deliver the signed hardcopy form to the Parish Compliance Coordinator (PCC), whose contact information is given below.
(IMPORTANT NOTE: Steps 1 & 2 are interchangeable, but must occur before Step 4).
3. After receiving a Child Protection Policy Booklet from the PCC or downloading the Booklet from www.adw.org/youth/pdf/cpp_english07.pdf, review the Booklet and sign and mail/deliver the Booklet’s Acknowledgment page (Appendix E, page 55) to the PCC within 30 days of assuming duties.
4. After receiving a CBIA form from the PCC, make an appointment to be fingerprinted. See: www.adw.org/youth/pdf/cpp_fingerprint08.pdf
for instructions/locations and dates for fingerprinting.
(IMPORTANT NOTE: An Adult Leader does not need not take a copy of the Volunteer Application Form with him/her when getting fingerprinted, but instead must take (a) the CBIA signed by an authorized parish representative; (b) a check or money order payable to CJIS (Fee for Volunteers is $33.25); and (c) a valid photo ID.)
